With your dog
by the lake
Dogs are welcome at the Terofal for 25 euros a night, in the hotel’s first-floor rooms and in three of the four Seeheimat apartments. Most places write “dogs welcome” and leave the rest open, and then you learn at reception that only one particular room will do, or that the dog cannot come to breakfast. So everything is here in advance: what works, what does not, what it costs and where to walk.

Dogs at the Terofal: what works
25 euros a night, but not in every room. There is a reason for that.
In the hotel we take dogs for 25 euros a night, but only in the rooms on the first floor. That is not arbitrary but a matter of cleaning: those rooms are equipped for it, the others are not. So please mention your dog when you book, otherwise there may be none free.
The same price applies in the Seeheimat holiday apartments, in three of the four. Ask before booking which one is free; the large apartments Liserl and Franzl, with their terraces by the lake, are the most popular with dog owners.
Then there is a rule that surprises many people: only one dog at a time on the Seeheimat grounds. The garden runs down to the water and is not fenced, so that is how we handle it. If you want to book there with a dog, ask early.

Breakfast, restaurant, water bowl
Not in the buffet room. Table service in the Jägerstube instead.
At breakfast there is an exception that works in your favour. For hygiene reasons dogs are not allowed in the buffet room. Instead you have breakfast with your dog in the Jägerstube, one of our wood-panelled dining rooms, and you are served at the table rather than helping yourself. Many guests end up preferring it to the buffet.
In the restaurant dogs are welcome, in the dining rooms as well as in the beer garden under the chestnut tree in front of the house. We are happy to put out a water bowl.
We do not have dog food, so bring your own. The nearest shop is in the village, but Monday is our closing day and much else is shut then too. If you arrive on a Sunday evening, plan ahead.
Where to walk your dog at the Schliersee
7.4 km by the water, the east shore quieter than the village side.
The village is good for dog walks. The path around the lake is 7.4 km long, practically flat and stays by the water almost all the way. From the house it is four minutes’ walk to the shore. A stretch of it is enough for a morning or evening walk; the full loop takes half a day.
In summer the usual rule applies by the water: dogs are generally not welcome at the official bathing spots. There is much more room on the east shore and the quieter sections of the path. Ask at reception, we know what applies where at the moment.
If you want to go higher: the ski bus to the Spitzingsee takes dogs, the ride is about a quarter of an hour and free with the Gästekarte, the guest card you receive when you stay overnight. That gets you to 1,084 metres without a car, with paths up there that stay pleasantly cool in summer.
For mountain walks with a dog the usual warning applies, and we mean it: not every path in the limestone mountains south of the lake is suitable for dogs, and rock gets very hot in summer. The German Alpine Club has information on the state of the paths.
