Festivals through the year
From the Christmas market to the strong beer tapping, plus the village clubs’ festivals in front of the house. What happens at the Terofal and out front.

A village inn is not only a place to eat, it is also a date in the calendar. At the Terofal that has been true for more than five hundred years, ever since it began as a Tafernwirt, the inn where farmers, hunters and fishermen gathered. A few of those dates have stayed.
On the first weekend of Advent, 28 and 29 November in 2026, twelve stalls stand in front of the house for the Christmas market at the Terofal, with crafts, bratwurst, raclette, crêpes, mulled wine and punch. February brings Weiberfasching, the women’s carnival day, and expressly not just for women: the gentlemen are warmly invited too. March follows with the Starkbieranstich, the tapping of the strong beer and one of the few dates when something is going on in an otherwise quiet month. Our Lenten speaker Xaver Terofal tells us everything that has caught his eye again, and the brewmasters of our breweries talk about the art of brewing.
Then there are the festivals the village clubs hold in front of the house, in the beer garden in fine weather and in the Bauerntheater when it rains: the annual days of the costume and mountain rifle clubs, the Alt-Schlierseer Kirchtag every year on the first Sunday in August, the Leonhardifahrt horse procession, the maypole festival when a new maypole goes up every four years, and the Kulturherbst with its many events. Its programme is at kulturherbst-schliersee.de.
We announce the exact dates at fairly short notice, because they follow the calendar of the municipality and the local clubs. If you want to be sure to be there, call ahead or follow us on Instagram.
Next door in the hall, the Schlierseer Bauerntheater plays as well. It was founded in 1892 by Xaver Terofal and Konrad Dreher and is the very first Bavarian Bauerntheater, a theatre of rural folk plays. The performances are run independently by the theatre association, with its own programme and its own ticket sales. Admission is €12, €15 or €18 depending on category, €1 less with the guest card. For our guests we always keep twelve tickets in the top category at reception, though we are unable to take them back.
During the performances the theatre bar is open, with drinks, schnitzel rolls and pretzels. If you are staying in the house, that evening is especially easy: the hall is right next door.
