Ute and Markus Leitner.

Your hosts since 2024.

Ute and Markus Leitner took over the Terofal in 2024. They run the house themselves, they are here, and for events Ute Leitner and Lisa Werner are your contacts. When you book here you are not dealing with a chain, but with two people who own the house.

What they found was a listed building with more than five hundred years of history and a business made up of four parts: the hotel, holiday apartments on the lake, a restaurant with bar and beer garden, and the historic hall next door. The renovation followed a year later.

The decision was not to smooth the house over. An inn that has stood on the same spot for five centuries does not need to pretend to be new. So the Stuben, the wood-panelled parlours, were restored rather than replaced, the old timber stayed, and the sauna went where there was room: under the roof, with a view of the lake.

The line the house has long used to describe itself has stayed too: sleep well, eat, drink, celebrate. Four things that belong together when you can do them all in one place.

Fifty people, one house.

Between 48 and 50 people work at the Terofal, most of them on permanent contracts. Three of them are worth knowing.

Tobias Krüger, head chef

Runs a kitchen with two sous-chefs and a team of twelve, almost all on permanent contracts. The daily specials, which change almost every day, are his.

Piotr Kropinski, hotel and reception

Runs the reception and with it the hotel. Whether you call, have a question about your room or want tickets for the Bauerntheater, you will end up with him and his team.

Lisa Werner, restaurant manager

Runs the Xaver together with Ute Leitner: the Stuben, terrace, bar and beer garden, with around 400 seats in all. Together with Ute Leitner she is also your contact for celebrations and conferences.

Four businesses, one house.

What belongs to the Terofal, and where each part is.

Boutique Hotel Terofal

Four stars, six room categories, at Xaver-Terofal-Platz 2. The top-floor rooms have their own sauna and a direct lake view.

Seeheimat holiday apartments

Four apartments at Seestraße 14, right on the shore, two of them rated five stars. From 42 to 90 square metres, with their own kitchen, a parking space and a sauna house by the lake.

Xaver Restaurant and Bar

Bavarian cooking in the Stuben, our wood-panelled parlours, plus the terrace, the bar and the beer garden under the chestnut tree in front of the house.

The hall in the Bauerntheater

Next door at Xaver-Terofal-Platz 1. The building belongs to the municipality, and the Terofal holds the sole catering right. Up to 250 guests dining, 400 with cinema seating, which makes it the largest event space on the Schliersee.

Eighteen partners.

Everyone uses the word regional. So we name the businesses, with product and place.

Frequently asked questions.

Who owns the Terofal?

Markus Leitner is the owner, and Ute and Markus Leitner run the house together as a host couple. They took it over in 2024. It belongs to no chain and is not run by a management company.

Who cooks at the Terofal?

The head chef is Tobias Krüger. He runs a kitchen with two sous-chefs. Alongside the menu, the kitchen writes a new list of daily specials almost every day, with seasonal and regional dishes.

What is the correct name of the house?

Terofal Schliersee. Several wrong versions are in circulation, such as Hotel Gasthof Terofal or Xaver im Terofal. The four businesses are called Boutique Hotel Terofal, Seeheimat Ferienwohnungen (holiday apartments), Xaver Restaurant und Bar, and the event venue in the Bauerntheater.

Is the hotel right on the lake?

No, and we say so clearly on purpose. The hotel is in the village centre on Xaver-Terofal-Platz. Only our Seeheimat holiday apartments at Seestraße 14 stand right on the shore, less than two hundred metres away. From the hotel, the Deluxe and Wellness categories have a direct view of the lake.

What does “sleep well, eat, drink, celebrate” mean?

It is the line the house has long used to describe itself, and it matches exactly what comes together here: a hotel, an inn, a bar and a hall. Four things you can do in one place without getting in the car in between.
